Deciding on this issue is really hard because there are many people who prefer the brand like the Optus iPhone 4 available from Optus Business, but the phone functions are also preferred by many. Is the brand and not functions, does not point to a mobile phone-users can ignore the characteristics of a product they're buying, but it shows that they can refrain from a function or two to get their favorite mobile phone brand. It is because they believe that these brands like Nokia, Motorola and HTC are good and reliable. To some extent they are correct, because known mobile phone brands have proven their reliability and expertise over the years.
Take the example of Nokia , Blackberry and Apple iPhone 4. There are a lot of mobile phones are available with excellent features still Nokia phones are on top and they lead the market. This is because over the years has managed to make cell phone users loyal to it by giving them the highest customer satisfaction through its high quality, price and reliability. The BlackBerry Torch Optus has managed to meet business people to their best as they love to keep a BlackBerry, even after the launch of the second company mobile phones. That means people prefer brands that they feel more comfortable buying products mobile phone of these brands.
But if we assume that people just base their purchase decision on the mobile phone brands when it would be incorrect. Just take the example of Apple's iPhone. Apple was a new entrant in the mobile business. Still it has managed to give Nokia a tough race just because of its exciting features and innovation. While other mobile phones such as LG and Optus Samsung Galaxy, when entered into the cell phone industry did not get as much attention from the user's mobile phone.
Therefore, there remains a tension between whether people go for a brand (like the Nokia N8) or they go to the functions alone. I personally think it depends on a person for what is more important, a well known brand or exciting features.
